Character: Avery Connor/Talon
Character Journal: [personal profile] hostile_but_cuddly
Characters Age: 19
Hero or Villain: Hero
Series of Origin: Elektra and Wolverine: The Redeemer
Universe of Origin: Marvel

Personality: Avery was isolated from her parents routinely and experimented on. She saw her Father killed before her eyes, was kidnapped by the Master Ninja Elektra only to be rescued and returned to her mother by Wolverine. But not before nearly going over to the Ninja life herself. Her Mother was held at gunpoint by a man who wanted to turn her into the next Weapon X. All this could have destroyed her, but instead has made her a much stronger person. She has refused to be devastated by events she could not control. However, her past dealings with strangers means that she's not quick to trust people. She has a standoffish attitude towards people she hasn't known long and possesses and a sour and remarkably sarcastic sense of humour. Once she's decided you're worth it though, she is extremely loyal and protective.

Background:

Canon Background: Avery wasn't born a mutant. Instead, it was thrust upon her by force. Using Logan (Wolverine) as the template, she was endowed with speed, agility, strength, and the legendary healing factor. After they determined that she had indeed inherited these abilities, her combat training began, and soon to her families' horror she was separated from them more and more often in an attempt to distance her from them emotionally. Filled with guilt, and hoping to prevent any further programming, her parents faked the end of their marriage, split up, and left the laboratory, with Avery going to live with her father. Naturally, those in charge were displeased by this, and hired an assassin named Elektra to kill Avery's father so that they could reclaim her. She did so, but Avery saw her and so she was forced to flee.

Fearing that Elektra would return to kill off the only witness, the same laboratory that hired her to dispatch the girls father, hired the mutant named Logan to protect Avery from her. Their fears turned out to be well founded as Elektra arrived to attack them shortly after Avery was reunited with her mother. Logan and Elektra battled, but Elektra was the one who won the day. As Logan lost consciousness, Elektra kidnapped Avery and fled a second time. Why she did this instead of killing the girl, remains unknown. However, during the fight Logan regained part of his memory. After that he turned his back on his 'employers', and tried to keep Avery's Mother safe from them.

Avery meanwhile developed a close bond with Elektra, as they were very similar (a waitress at a diner even mistook them for mother and daughter). Avery expressed a desire to remain with Elektra and become an assassin. She also tried to feign an air of distance from her mother, whom she believed had an affair, causing their family to be broken up. In addition to this, her pursuers had a backup plan waiting in case Logan defected. Unknown to the girl, one of the alterations made to her genetic code while she was in the labs was a special chemical signature that allowed them to track her no matter where she went.

Even with this, they were defeated in the end as Logan and Elektra worked together to help the girl and her Mother escape. Elektra set up an account for them with Logan's help and deposited 4 million+ dollars into it for Avery and her mother to live off of. With fake passports and new freedom the Mother and Daughter left to begin their lives again somewhere else.

Supplemental Background: Avery and her mother lived in hiding this way for a couple of years, never staying in one place for long. Her Mother administering a special medication that would degrade the tracker chemical Avery produced. When she reached the age of 16 though Avery began to behave differently as more of her genetic alterations became active. By this time they had finally settled in California near the great Redwood forests and Avery found herself spending days wandering through the woods in a kind of feral haze. Her senses began to enhance themselves to the animalistic levels that Wolverine was known for. Despite her connection to the man and her training as a scientist Veronica Connor was distraught. She did not know how to raise someone like the person Avery was becoming. So she did the only thing she could think of and suggested to Avery that she seek out the man for guidance. Agreeing that this might be good for her Avery parted ways with the last remnants of her family, and made for New York to hunt down a man she'd by then not seen in years...Logan.

After tracking Logan to the X-Mansion, Avery watched him and his movements about the X-mansion for days, until the wind changed and gave her position away. The man made for the woods, knowing that she would follow him. Filled with anger and confusion over what was happening to her and the reason she was becoming the person she seemed to be changing into Avery fought him to a standstill using the skills she'd learned from Elektra during their time together and the instincts that were rapidly developing inside her. Once they had exhausted themselves though, Logan convinced her that she should try to continue to live as close to a normal life as possible, for her own sake as well as her Mothers. Avery wasn't happy with this but Logan offered to drive her across the country to take her home and she realized that while they were on the road she could ask him more questions about how to cope.

It was on the road that Avery first began to scratch at the backs of her hands. Logan examined them and knew what it meant. The girl really was following in his footsteps after all. By the end of the trip she was able to fully extend them and retrieve them. And she was even less happy about having to try and work things out with her Mother. Avery and her Mother tried their best and got along for another year. But by the time Avery was 17 she was spending weeks on end in the forest where before she had only been spending days. Her relationship with her Mother was all but non existent. Nevertheless she kept checking in on the woman to make sure nothing had happened to her. During one of these feral episodes the Weapon X spy network finally caught up with her again and she was taken back to their facility. The lab was thrilled to discover the development of her claws and heightened senses and set to work right away treating her claws. However they did not have access to the same adamantium that her counterparts had been granted due to their previous failure in losing her a few years earlier. Instead her claws were coated in a special and highly experimental bio-organic ceramic coating. This made the claws sharp enough to cut through almost anything but did not make them indestructible. They could be broken off if enough force was applied to them. Because of their bio organic design though the ceramic coating regenerated along with her claws, allowing them to maintain their sharpness. The ceramic coating gave the claws a deep umber coloring, nearly black with a glossy shine to them.

When Veronica saw the choppers hovering over the Red Wood forests near her house she became worried for her Daughter and called on Logan once again. He responded by making a call to another old ally of Avery's; the Ninja Elektra. Together with Avery's Mother the three of them joined forces once again to help Avery escape from her captors, placing explosives around the facility and destroying it. Thereby taking down another piece of the Weapon X network of labs and facilities. Once they were away from the facility Avery implored Elektra to finally train her to use the abilities she was gaining properly and while Logan disagreed, she went with the woman to be trained in the ways of the Ninja.

MDC Background: Some time later; Superboy Prime destroyed half of New York. Now worried that something could have happened to Logan in the attack Avery left her training with Elektra and made her way to New York. With almost all access to the city cut off she had a difficult time making her way in. Armed with the money that had been given to her and her Mother by Elektra when they'd first escaped, she rented a cab and made for the nearest Hotel, hoping she could find a phone and get a hold of Logan. To her relief she was able to contact him and he came and took her back to the X-Mansion. When the dust settled from the attack the situation at the Mansion was nice for a time, but people began to go their separate ways. Eventually even Logan left and before she knew it the mansion was all but empty. Not knowing what else to do, Avery too left the place taking off into the surrounding wilderness sinking once again into her feral haze.

When she returned to herself once again Avery found that the Professor had gone missing, along with everyone else, and dust was covering the floor and surfaces. Unsure of how long she's been living 'feral', Avery attempted to make her way back to California once more. She made it there through a combination of walking and hitch hiking where she ended up on a roadside heading toward Gotham City. Here she was run over by a young hero named Cyborg who wasn't paying attention to the road. She survived of course thanks to her healing factor and feeling guilty for hitting her with the T-Car he gave her a lift to Gotham city, where they parted ways. While she was there she had a run in with the anti-hero Red-X. They had a small fight and he then escaped her. But she spent several days tracking him and finally caught up with him again by tackling him off of his motorcycle just outside town. Conceding her abilities Red X joined up with her and they began the making of a hero team called the Outsiders.

While she was there she took the codename Talon because of her claws. And while she had been bringing her feral episodes under better control she still felt the need to leave the city on occasion. The last episode she had was particularly long though, and when she returned to the city she found that Red X had gone and she was once again alone.

Sexuality: Undetermined

Powers and/or Special Skills: As a clone of Wolverine, Avery possesses most of his mutant powers. However, since she is only 19, some of her powers aren't as developed as those of Wolverine.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Like Wolverine, Avery's primary mutant power is an accelerated healing factor that enables her to regenerate damaged or destroyed tissue with far greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. She is capable of fully healing injuries resulting in massive tissue damage and blood loss such as multiple bullet wounds, slash wounds, and puncture wounds within a matter of minutes. Her healing factor is developed to such a degree, she is capable of reattaching severed limbs. Avery was designed so that her powers did not activate until a certain age, and so that once she reached maturity, her powers would exceed those of Wolverine himself. At fourteen, she could recover from a gunshot to the chest in approximately 1 minute.

Foreign Chemical Immunity: Avery's natural healing also affords her the virtual immunity to poisons and most drugs.

Disease Immunity: Due to her highly efficient immune system, Avery is immune to all Earthly diseases and infections.

Hyper Acute Senses: Avery possesses super humanly acute senses that are comparable to those of certain animals. She is capable of seeing at much greater distances, and with perfect clarity, than an ordinary human. She retains this same level of clarity in near-total darkness. Her sense of hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, allowing her to both hear sounds that ordinary human's can't and to hear sounds that ordinary humans can, but at much greater distances. Avery is able to use her highly developed sense of smell to track targets by scent with an impressive degree of success, even if the scent has been eroded by natural factors, such as the weather.

Superhuman Stamina: Avery's muscles produce considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the muscles of an ordinary human. She can exert herself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair her.

Superhuman Agility: Avery's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Reflexes: Avery's reflexes are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Bone Claws: Avery's skeleton includes two retractable bone claws in each foot and one in each arm that she can extend and retract at will. These claws are housed beneath the skin and muscle. Unsheathing them causes her skin to tear and bleed, but the wounds are quickly dealt with by her healing factor. Avery can unsheathe any number of these claws at once, although she must keep her wrists and/or feet straight at the moment the claws emerge. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than normal human bone, allowing Avery to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials.

Longevity: Presumably, because Avery's DNA was altered to make her a clone of the mutant Wolverine, her healing factor will also provide her with an extended lifespan by slowing the effects of the aging process.

Superhuman Durability

Peak Human Strength: Because of her healing factor, Avery can push her muscles, joints, and ligaments to levels beyond the natural limits of a woman of her height, weight, and build without sustaining injury. Unlike Wolverine, her skeleton isn't laced with Adamantium. While her skeleton, much like her musculature, can withstand greater pressures than a normal human skeleton, she can only withstand so much weight and pressure without sustaining fractures.

Ceramic Coated Claws: Avery's claws have been coated with an extremely durable bio-organic ceramic. As a result; while her claws can still break with enough pressure they are much more durable than they would be. In addition, the experimental bio-organic material used regenerates along with the claws when they break. They are capable of cutting almost any substance, with the exceptions of the extreme metals such as Adamantium, Vibranium, and Captain America's shield. Her ability to slice completely through a substance depends upon the amount of force she can exert and the thickness of the substance. Like other Ceramic Blades; The Ceramic will not corrode in harsh environments, is non-magnetic, and does not conduct electricity. It has resistance to strong acid and caustic substances. Moreover, they are not seen by conventional metal detectors.

Expert Tracker: Due to her enhanced sense of smell, Avery is a dangerous tracker and has memorized many different scents.

Expert Martial Artist: Avery is an excellent hand to hand combatant, thanks to intensive training by the Assassin Elektra and aided by her own natural instincts.

Current Location: Gotham City

Anything else we should know? Averys mother was one of the scientists who oversaw the surgery in which Logan was given his adamantium skeleton. Apparently, she was the only one of the scientists to actually treat him as a human being rather than an animal. Telling him that he was strong enough to overcome the pain of having the molten metal applied to his skeleton.
